Bearing compression tool

In collaboration with a leading wind turbine manufacturer, we developed a specialized bearing compression tool for the repair of a main bearing on a wind turbine

Design driven by limited space and structural requirements

The project originated from a specific challenge where conventional methods could not be applied due to limited space and complex interfaces around the bearing.

The initial phase focused on mapping the available space and identifying structural interfaces where loads could be safely applied without compromising the integrity of the structure.

Result

The result was an ultra-compact tool designed to operate in highly constrained environments.

The structure is machined from aluminum to minimize weight, allowing for manual handling and installation without the need for heavy lifting equipment. To ensure controlled and uniform load application, the tool incorporates multiple small high-pressure hydraulic cylinders. This enables an even distribution of force, effectively compressing the bearing while avoiding overstressing the surrounding structure.

The solution combines precision, low weight, and high functionality, enabling complex repairs to be carried out efficiently on-site.
